September 8, 1983 Fairfax County Sheriff M. Wayne Huggins announced that more than $10,000 has disappeared from two bank acounts maintained by the county jail and that one senior official has taken early retirement and another has been demoted because of the incident.
October  8, 1983 A federal appeals court ruled Charles B. Lankford, a former Democratic candidate for Fairfax County sheriff convicted in 1978 of sexual offenses against a teen-aged girl, is entitled to a new trial because he was improperly defended against the charges.
 In 1977, citizens filed 121 formal written complaints against the police, about one written complaint every other day. The Police have determined that the nature of the complaints against them are secret.  In 1978, 132 formal complaints were issued from citizens, against the Fairfax County Police. Roughly one formal, written complaint was issued by residents every other day. The Police have determined that the nature of the complaints against them are secret.  
In 1979 there was a 27% increase in complaints from citizens against the Fairfax County Police.
