Motorist Hurt In Va. Crash A Fairfax County police officer
and a motorist were injured in Falls Church yesterday when their cars collided
as the officer was pursuing a stolen car, Falls Church police said. Two police
cruisers were chasing the stolen car east on Route 7 near Idylwood Road about
5:30 p.m., Falls Church police said. At the intersection with Washington
Street, one police car hit another vehicle, police said. The officer in the
cruiser and the driver of the other car, neither of whom was identified by
police, were taken to a local hospital, where they were treated and released,
Falls Church police said. The driver of the stolen vehicle later was arrested
in Arlington County, Falls Church police said. A Fairfax County police
spokesman said that the department is investigating the incident and that
officers are allowed to pursue fleeing misdemeanor or felony suspects
throughout Virginia. Only felony suspects can be pursued into Maryland and the
District, Lt. Michael Fish said.
